iphone 4s apple's

After more than a year with the iPhone 4, iPhone 4S - announced Tuesday by Apple CEO Tim Cook - seems a bit, well, disappointing.

The hardware announced today offers no design review. Apple updated the phone's camera a 5-megapixel sensor with an 8 megapixel sensor, however, and the iPhone 4S using the same dual-core chip that the iPad 2 A5 does.

4G capacity? Forget it - Apple is not going down that road this time. We already knew about iOS 5 and its functions for a while, but the inclusion of voice-activated software Siri was a pleasant surprise.

This does not mean I'm satisfied. IPhone 4 last year, still has the capacity of smart phones released this year, and internal improvements in the iPhone 4S, albeit a little late to the game, is certainly welcome. The iPhone 4S is a good phone that has done even better, but certainly not call it "revolutionary." And, on second thought, Apple either. Design: No change, no problem

The iPhone 4S is designed identical to the iPhone 4, but their insides are all new. Although it might be a disappointment to some people (not bigger screen, thinner body there, not tear-shaped game design for children), I am actually very happy with it. I really like the design of the iPhone 4: Still the thinnest smartphone available (although Samsung), and has a style, thanks, premium look to the side glass and back.

I'm a little disappointed to see that the screen space was not a bump. I'm definitely not asking for a 4.5-inch screen (which is very big in my opinion), but 4 inches or 3.7 inches would surf the Web, watch movies, games and a little more comfortable. Ramon Llamas, senior research analyst with IDC's mobile devices technology and trends, says that keeping the same screen size is actually a benefit to consumers and developers.

"You have all these amazing applications [in the App Store]. If you make a different screen size, which will cause havoc in the community of developers," says Llamas. A compatible screen size is one reason why the App Store has a wide range of applications, he adds.

The best camera? Hard to say

Apple iPhone iPhone 4S 4S featuresApple featuresApple camera camera is not the only high-tech company like tick specifications and claim their products are the first to market with a technology. Most companies that do are based on the failure of consumers to understand the technology or know what it means to the specifications. This confusion is often the case with the specifications of the camera, so I asked my colleague Tim Moynihan, PC World editor camera to decipher some of the specifications announced for the iPhone 4S camera.

Apple says the new iPhone 8 megapixel camera is built around a rear illumination sensor (BSI) CMOS, a form optimized for low light sensors that debuted on the Sony cameras some years ago. Sensors BSI are now quite common in CMOS-based cameras, both cameras and independent a growing number of camera phones.

A BSI sensor is designed so that small, light cable lock switch to the back of the sensor, so the sensor surface more efficient source light collection, as such, BSI-sensor cameras usually perform well in low light without flash. The iPhone 4 5 megapixel sensor also a BSI sensor, and was very good, the new sensor in the iPhone 4S is likely that a higher resolution version.

Apple also says that the iPhone 4S has a lens of five elements that clearly offers 30 percent more. According to Moynihan, the specifications of the lens sound good, but we will need to test Apple's claims of improved image sharpness in our laboratories. The iPhone 4S f2. 4 lens has a wider opening than most non-phone cameras, along with optimized low light sensor, which should work well in low light and fast shutter speeds. Slide the T-Mobile MyTouch 4G F2.2 aperture is still a bit wider. (The arm-made HTC MyTouch 4G PCWorld senior camera phone at this time.)

More pixels do better?

When Apple says the iPhone camera has pixels 4S 60 percent more than the iPhone 4 camera, means that an 8-megapixel camera is technically a 160 per cent of the resolution of a camera of 5 megapixels. So really, does not translate directly into improved image quality and more megapixels are not an indicator of image quality in small sensor cameras. The highest number of megapixels does not mean you will be able to print pictures in a larger size without losing resolution, or to crop images without losing resolution of the cropped area.

According to Moynihan, unless the sensor size is also 60 percent larger, higher resolution may translate into a worse image quality compared to the iPhone 4. When packing a sensor the same size, more pixels, you can end up with a lot of noise and artifacts. Again, this is something we'll have to test when we have the iPhone 4S in.

We recommend:

We're still a little confused about exactly what Apple means when he says that the iPhone 4S is a hybrid IR-pass filter, because the company simply threw that term around without having to explain what the "hybrid" refers . It could be a filter that allows both infrared photography and regular photography, a feature that the user can enable or disable. Moynihan suspect that the iPhone 4S The sensor has a built-in infrared filter blocking to resolve any chromatic aberration, purple fringing or color accuracy problems caused by the sensor sensitivity to infrared light.

If that is the case, is a unique feature of the camera phone, although some independent use camera lenses and coating processing software to deal with similar problems.

As for shutter speed, the company says only 1.1 seconds to take a picture in the first 0. 5 seconds to take a second, we realized that Apple can not compare the iPhone to slide T-Mobile MyTouch, which has the best camera of any phone we've tested. File of the slide of the camera are quite similar to the iPhone 4S, so we have to do some tests ahead of the head once Apple's phone received in our laboratories. We also plan in the diffusion test with other phones that Apple have at home.

Like many dual-core Android phones available today, the iPhone 4S can shoot high resolution video up to 1080p. It also has digital video stabilization - but unless a radically different system than we have seen in other video devices, do not expect miracles of digital stabilization only.

Judging by the specifications alone, the iPhone camera 4S is competitive with the crop at the top of the latest phones Android, including the Samsung Galaxy II S Series, HTC ThunderBolt, and the slide. Given that the iPhone 4 is an excellent performance in imaging, Apple gets the benefit of the doubt when it comes to demands for improved performance of the camera - you just do not think that the greatest number of megapixels is much to do with it.
