Bluetooth 4.0 specification was completed in July 2010, but smart phones compatible with the standard have not begun to reach the market until now. The first phone that supports Bluetooth 4.0 is the iPhone 4S, believe it or not. Therefore, it has taken more than a year for a company to start using the new standard.

The biggest selling point of the standard Bluetooth 4.0 PAN is the way to its low power consumption, but this does not have a major impact on Apple's iPhone. This technology will allow the iPhone 4S to collect data from multiple sensors and accessories simultaneously.

Now that Apple has broken the barrier, expect more manufacturers to begin to do the same.
