iPhone 4S Minor Design Changes

Posted by VdoCity Thursday, October 20, 2011

http://cdn.itproportal.com/photos/Energizer_iPhone_case_display.jpgWhen the iPhone 4S was released and it became apparent there was no new design, many case makers must have been rubbing their hands together thinking of the iPhone 4 cases already in stock they could sell for the new handset. However, small design changes have come to light recently that seem to have scuppered their plans, Cnet reveals.

On the iPhone 4S the ambient light sensor has moved a few millimetres to the left and when using the old model cases this sensor is hidden; in which case, the sensor doesn't receive light and it "thinks" the iPhone is in a dark room and the screen light is automatically dimmed to look less blinding and save battery life.

The settings can be adjusted from the menu, but Apple did not intend for its device to adapt to the cases.

Also, the camera cut-out for iPhone 4S should be larger than the one for the previous model, since the hardware has changed. When using the old model's cases with iPhone 4S, the images may have a dark ring around them, according to Cnet, and it thwarts the camera from performing to the best of its capabilities.

Some case makers, such as LifeProof, announced they will adapt the cases bought after the iPhone 4S' release, at the request of customers.
